The Mexico Institute's programming have included some world class events, which have received rave reviews in media ranging from the London Times to American Way magazine. The Mexico Institute's portfolio of core annual programs, featuring a balance of local and international artists, includes:
- Classical, popular and folkloric concerts
- The Day of the Spanish Language, featuring writers such as Carlos Fuentes, Carlos Monsivais, Elena Poniatowska, Angeles Mastretta and other literary figures. A Spanish writing competition among high school and college students has been organized for the past 26 years
- USA Film Festival premieres with the participation of actors, directors and critics from Mexico and Latin America
- Children's Summer Arts Camp - at the Cathedral of Guadalupe by Mexican and American teachers to instill pride in children's cultural roots exposing them to music, dance, theater, visual arts, field trips and more
- A gala honoring a Mexican state or theme with its cuisine, dance, music, folk art including trade ties, with the participation of guest artists and dignitaries
- Art exhibitions, which vary between a major international touring exhibition or at a local gallery
